Chippewa County (WQOW) - The
city of Chippewa Falls and Chippewa County have agreed to consolidate 911
dispatch services.
Thursday, the county board approved the merger in a
unanimous vote. Earlier this week the Chippewa Falls City Council also approved
it. The joint services have been talked about for years, to save money and
improve safety. The county will take over operations in January.
The five city dispatchers will be required to
apply for a job with the county. The county says it could take until next June
to finish the necessary modifications to the county dispatch center. In the
meantime, dispatchers will continue to operate out of the city's building.
