Chippewa County (WQOW) - The decision to merge two 911 dispatch services is part of the reason taxes will be going up for residents of Chippewa County.
The county board voted unanimously Thursday night to consolidate dispatch services with the City of Chippewa Falls. The board then approved next year's county budget, which will also raise taxes.
"We use the analogy that for a $150,000 home the impact would be $30," says Chippewa County Administrator Frank Pascarella.
He says without the 911 merger, taxes would have risen about $18 for the typical homeowner. But he says after next year taxes should hold steady.
"We believe we're in pretty good shape, good shape in managing that budget for a number of years. We should not have dramatic increases in the operating budget in the county in the future," he adds.
The county will take over dispatch operations in January.
