Chippewa County (WQOW) - A strange scene unfolds along a highway near Chippewa Falls Friday morning and ends with a three-vehicle crash.
The sheriff's department says four people were in a car on Highway 29 when one of the passengers got angry because he felt the driver was going too slow. The man allegedly grabbed the steering wheel, forcing the car to the side of the highway. All four people got out, but the passenger got back in the car and took off, leaving the others on the side of the road.
"Witnesses estimate that the vehicle traveling east was in excess of 90 to 100 mph. It encountered some traffic and collided with a pickup truck and then another vehicle that was eastbound," says Capt. Gene Gutsch of the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office.
Two vehicles were totaled and part of the highway was shut down for an hour to clean up the mess and sort out what happened. Only one person was hurt and the injury was minor.
Because of that, Capt. Gutsch says the man who caused it all is not likely to face criminal charges. But he says he will be ticketed for reckless driving and speeding.
