Press Release from the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department: Eau Claire Sheriff's deputies are investigating a two vehicle crash with injury involving a police vehicle owned by the City of Augusta.  The crash happened on Saturday 11/10/2012 at 3:55 PM on State Highway 27 in the Town of Bridge Creek.  This location is approximately 1 mile north of the City of Augusta.

Augusta Police Officer Dan Wisniewski initiated a traffic stop upon a vehicle at 3:50 PM while traveling northbound on State Highway 27.  Officer Wisniewski made personal contact with the vehicle and operator he had stopped, and returned to his vehicle.  Seconds after returning to his vehicle, a southbound vehicle operated by 71 year old Darrel Hess from Indiana came across the traffic lane and struck the parked Augusta patrol vehicle.

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage.  The Indiana man was not injured; Wisniewski was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Weather and road conditions were not a contributing factor in the crash.

The Eau Claire Sheriff's Office was assisted on the scene by the Augusta Police Department, Augusta First Responders, Augusta Fire and Rescue, and Eau Claire Fire Rescue.

Any further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
