MADISON (WKOW) -- Thanksgiving is fast approaching. It's a holiday where everyone is encouraged and reminded to be thankful for the good things in our lives. This year, you can give thanks for your health and life by donating blood to others less fortunate.
The American Red Cross is asking donors to give blood this year and receive a complimentary pie at participating area donation centers and blood drives during the week of Thanksgiving.
The need for blood is ongoing, but the supply is not, especially around the holidays. Long holiday weekends pose an extra challenge when many donors are traveling to be with family and friends.
All blood types are needed to ensure an adequate blood supply. Donors with type O negative, O positive, A negative or B negative blood are especially encouraged to give.
If you'd like to donate, find donation times and centers, or just learn more about the American Red Cross you can call 1-800-733-2767 or
