Sawyer County (WQOW) - A northern Wisconsin tribe is asking for federal help in solving a string of arson fires on the reservation.
Six fires broke out last July on the Lac Court Oreilles Reservation. A ceremonial lodge and two private sweat lodges were destroyed and a tribal trading post had severe damage. Other fires were discovered at the LCO pow wow grounds, a ceremonial ring, and a private storage building.
Tribal officials have now asked the FBI to assist in the investigation. An FBI spokesman says the U.S. Attorney's office is reviewing the case to determine if there may have been federal violations.
The Sawyer County Sheriff's Office says they have a person of interest in the case but are still waiting for test results from the state crime lab.
