MADISON (WKOW) -- Rep. Robin Vos (R-Burlington) will be
the new Speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly next year.
The Assembly Republican Caucus approved Rep. Vos as
Speaker on a unanimous voice vote Tuesday afternoon.
Rep. Vos replaces Jeff Fitzgerald (R-Horicon), who will
step down at the end of the year after giving up his seat to run for U.S.
Senate.
Rep. Scott Suder (R-Abbotsford) was selected to remain as
Assembly Majority Leader.
Meanwhile, caucus members paid tribute to Rep. Roger
Rivard (R-Rice Lake), who lost re-election in the 75th Assembly District to
Democrat Stephen Smith.
Rep. Rivard faced controversy after his remarks that
"some girls rape so easy," came to light in a Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel story
in October.
Rep. Rivard, who fought back tears, told members that the
last two weeks have been very hard on his family.
