Holiday light recycling offered in Eau Claire County

Posted:

Eau Claire County (Press Release) - For many people the holidays are incomplete without festive strands of lights.

But what can be done with those colorful lights once they stop working?  Or what if you've bought new lights and don't need your old ones?

In recognition of America Recycles Day, Eau Claire County Recycling is kicking off a holiday light recycling program.  Starting November 15th, Eau Claire County, in connection with the Recycling Association of Minnesota (RAM), will begin collecting unwanted strands of holiday lights, keeping them out of landfills.

This is the second holiday season that Eau Claire County Recycling has offered this program.  Like last year, strands of lights may be brought to the Eau Claire County Courthouse.  The program will run from November 15, 2012 through January 28, 2013.  No fees are involved for the recycling of holiday lights.

Location and Hours of Operation:

Eau Claire County Courthouse

721 Oxford Ave, Eau Claire

Through December 2nd, 2012

Monday – Friday 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

December 3rd, 2012 and after
Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

RAM's holiday light recycling program employs over 200 individuals with disabilities at vocational centers throughout the state of Minnesota.  Every part of the light strand is dismantled by vocational center clients and properly recycled. The program is promoted in partnership with WCCO, Xcel Energy, Ace Hardware stores, and CERTS (Clean Energy Resource Teams).
