Two Rivers man convicted of 8th OWI, sentenced to 3 years

MANITOWOC (WKOW) – A Two Rivers man has been sentenced to three years in prison after being convicted of his eight-offense driving while intoxicated.

David F. Lawler pleaded no contest this week to the drunken-driving charge.

Mishicot Police said the 56-year-old was stopped in August for driving with a revoked license.  According to a police report, an officer smelled alcohol on Lawler's breath and observed that Lawler's eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred.

A criminal complaint stated that Lawler told officers he'd drunk at least a 12-pack of beer.  Prosecutors said his blood-alcohol level was 0.264 percent, which is more than three times the legal limit.

A message left with Lawler's public defender on Saturday was not immediately returned.

According to the Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter, Lawler's most recent previous convictions were in 2008, 2006 and 2004.
