Wis. man missing in Alaska - WQOW TV: Eau Claire, WI NEWS18 News, Weather, and Sports

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (WKOW) -- The search is on for a Wisconsin man who hasn't returned from a hiking and exploration trip in Alaska.

Thomas Seibold, of Three Lakes, was reported overdue Sunday. Officials say the 31-year-old split up from his friends in late September to stay at a remote cabin through October.

Ground searches for Seibold have been held up by open rivers, thin ice and a lack of snow. Bad weather has restricted search flights. He was expected to hike 25 miles to the village Kobuk but hasn't yet appeared.

Seibold has camped extensively though winters and is an outdoors and survival instructor. Troopers have been searching along the Ambler River and Ulaneak Creek for any sign of a base camp.
