Tickets given out at new Occupy site

MADISON (WKOW) -- Dane County cracks down on members of the Occupy Madison movement by handing out tickets at their new site.

Late Sunday night, anyone still at Lake View Hill Park off Northport Drive in Madison after 10:00 p.m. was given a citation. Dane County officials had warned the group on Saturday they needed to leave that area. Protesters were told they could relocate to Token Creek County Park in the Town of Burke.

The group of about 25 homeless people staying at Lake View Hill Park told 27 News they had no plans to move. Franjo Majstoric, one member of the group living at the park said, "Well mine got burned, and I don't see anyway to pay it, and I'm going to ignore it. Any other way it's an assault for my chances of a future."

The group had originally been staying in an abandoned parking lot on East Washington before they were asked to leave last week.

Majstoric says it would be too hard for them to live at Token Creek County Park. "It's not even possible for us to move out in the wilderness where they are asking. There's no transportation."

Officials say there is room for the homeless population at shelters and they can also go to the day shelter off East Washington when it opens next week.
