BELLMONT, Ill. (WKOW) -- Southern Illinois was shaking early Tuesday evening.
The U.S. Geological Survey said a magnitude 3.6 earthquake hit around 5:30 p.m. It's epicenter was near the Indiana border, about 6 miles northwest of Mount Carmel.
The Illinois Emergency Management Agency said the state has no reports of any damage.
The area is near the New Madrid seismic zone. The USGS says small earthquakes are felt in that seismic area once or twice a year.
