RIB MOUNTAIN (WKOW) -- Warmer temperatures this Thanksgiving week is making it tough for snow lovers to hit the slopes in Wisconsin.
Granite Peak at Rib Mountain has delayed its opening until at least December 1. The ski hill began making snow November 11, but after a couple days the temperatures were too warm to continue. Granite Peak manager Brandon Marquardt says it's always a gamble on when Wisconsin's weather will cooperate for eager skiers, snowboarders and tubers.
The website www.skicentral.com says only one of 16 Wisconsin ski resorts reporting is open for skiing and snowboarding. Trollhaugen in northwestern Wisconsin says it has a base depth of 18 to 48 inches and has been busy making snow at its hill in Dresser.
