Town of Wheaton (WQOW) - It won't be long before a frac sand transfer station is up and running in Chippewa County.
Muskie Proppant recently reached a deal with Northern Crossarm in the Town of Wheaton. Northern Crossarm is a manufacturer and distributor of treated wood. The deal was struck after the Eau Claire City Council rejected Muskie's plans for a sand transfer facility on Eau Claire's north side.
A site plan for the Chippewa facility was turned in this week. Muskie will haul sand from its plant in Pierce County to a transloading site at Northern Crossarm. Sand will not be stored there. It will be transferred from the truck to rail cars by a conveyor system. The site plan estimates 40 to 50 trucks will use the facility each day.
Muskie's contract requires drivers to keep their distance from school buses, a distance of at least 500 feet. Northern Crossarm says trucks could start rolling in with sand in mid-December.
