MADISON (WKOW) -- The Boys & Girls Club of Dane County put on a Thanksgiving feast for hundreds Thursday.
One board member said a lot of work went into the meal. The organization planned for about 700 to turn out, but made enough food for 1,000. That equals about 40 turkeys, 30 hams, a couple hundred pies. They paired up with local businesses like Metcalfe's to prepare all the food.
"Last year we were actually delivering some of the turkeys and this year they're changing it up a little bit, doing it table style like at a restaurant and people are really enjoying it you. You can see some of the smiles on their faces and it's a great event," said Metcalfe's Vice President Kevin Metcalfe.
The Boys & Girls Club also had some entertainment, like a pie eating contest for those who didn't fill up from all the food. About 70 people volunteered.
MADISON (WKOW) --Volunteers are still needed to help feed more than 200 families this Thanksgiving at the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County.
Officials say, they need volunteers to help with a full day of meal service, assist with activities and clean facilities afterwards. A variety of shifts are available. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. with dinner being served at 1:00 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club Allied location. This festive event will feature a poetry slam, music and performances by local kids. The meal will include turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, greens and more as well as a variety of desserts.
