EAU CLAIRE - While loading up your plate on Thanksgiving, your thoughts might slip to how you'll burn all those calories off. Hundreds of people don't have to worry about it, though. They took care of their cardio that morning.
The 5th Annual Turkey Trot was held in downtown Eau Claire. The five mile race benefits the Eau Claire YMCA as well as the Boys and Girls Club.
"I just try to stay calm and relaxed, you don't want to get too stressed out about it," Runner Dani Fischer said about the beginning of the race. "It feels good to get out here, get up early, get a race in before the big Thanksgiving meal today. I feel good about sitting down and eating probably 3000 calories after this."
David Derge ran the race with a cowbell in hand. Which meant plenty of cries of, "More cowbell" throughout the course. "Some friends of mine just thought it'd be a neat idea to carry cowbells and just enjoy the race."
Derge said about the race itself, "Keep up with whoever I'm running with, you know, I got five miles ahead of me, just pace yourself. I was hurtin' at the end, I was running with a friend of mine, and I was just trying to keep up with her, and it was a hard race at the end."
Fischer said, "It felt really good today, I felt really strong finishing. I didn't want to overdo it, so I just stayed relaxed the whole time. It felt great, the temperature was great today. Great weather, couldn't ask for anything more."
