Black Friday shoppers out in full force in Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW)- Black Friday is here and with stores opening earlier than they ever have before, the most dedicated shoppers spent their time late Thanksgiving night waiting in line.  Doors opened at midnight here at Kohl's.  But customers started lining up before 8 p.m. Thursday night to take advantage of those Black Friday deals.

"It is freezing," says a shivering Elizabeth Gustavson as she waited in line.  "We've been huddled together in little groups of body heat.   My nose is red and I can't feel it."

"The last half hour is taking really long," explains Mahrian Popple.  "We are looking at our phones every five minutes."

But when customers did get inside, the wait started to shrink.

"The lines are going quicker this year than usual so it's better this year," points out Makayla Popple.

Kohl's is selling most of its items at huge discounts, ranging from 15 percent off to as much as 65 percent off.  Not bad when you are trying to save some Christmas shopping cash.

We will be here until like 8 this morning for like 12 hours of shopping," Makayla laughs.

So what are people shopping for?

"Just shoes and toys; mostly some boots mainly," Gustavson reveals.

"Toys for the grand kids and bedding," says Jan Caflisch.

"Some really good blankets for $8.99," Mahrian points out.  "They've only got like 40."

"Clothes, pretty much that's it; and some shoes," Makayla adds.

Kohl's wasn't the only store flooded with customers Friday morning.

"When we were at Target, we went all the way around the store three times," Caflisch remembers.

Shopping started to slow down a few hours after doors opened at midnight.  But it was a slow down that the store manager expected to see because of the early opening.
