Solidarity action in support of Wal-Mart workers on Black Friday - WQOW TV: Eau Claire, WI NEWS18 News, Weather, and Sports

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Interfaith Coalition for Worker Justice and the South Central Federation of Labor say they want to bring to light struggles of some Wal-Mart workers.

They held a solidarity action event at the Walmart Supercenter in Monona on Friday. Wal-Mart associates and warehouse workers, along with labor, community and faith leaders organized this action at different locations across the country.

The group says they want to say prayers and stand in support of respect, safety, fair wages and regular schedules for Wal-Mart workers.

Kevin Gundlach, President of South Central Federation of Labor, says the group wants to give a statement to Wal-Mart.

"There's a signed statement that we're going to go into the store with and it's happening all over the country, " said Gundlach. "Those of us want to show the public what's going on and also let the store manager know we have been here and we're concerned about the workers and how they're being treated."

Rabbi Bonnie Margulis, President of the Wisconsin Faith Voices for Justice, says Wal-Mart workers need to earn more money.

"Wal-Mart is the biggest private employer in the United States and yet its workers make so little money that many are on food stamps and other public assistance because Wal-Mart does not pay them living wages," said Margulis.
