I-39/90, Verona Road projects could be delayed

MADISON (WKOW) -- The expansion of I-39/90 between Madison and the Illinois state line could be delayed. 

In its budget request sent to Governor Scott Walker, the state Department of Transportation(DOT) said it expects a decrease in federal funding which could necessitate the start of the project being set back.

Right now, the $715 million expansion of the 45-mile stretch of interstate is scheduled to begin in 2015.

The DOT proposal indicates that could be delayed until 2017.

Plans call for adding a third lane in each direction, along with new pavement and bridges.

The DOT proposal also includes delays of other projects, including work to ease congestion on Verona Road, south of the Beltline. The start of work there could be pushed back to 2015.
