UPDATE: 9-year-old accidentally shot by brother out of hospital


Pierce County (WQOW) - We have an update Monday on the area boy who was accidentally shot by his brother on Saturday.

The 9-year-old boy from Osseo is now out of the hospital.

Pierce County deputies say the boy and his 11-year-old brother were visiting their father in Spring Valley.  The older boy apparently found a .357 caliber handgun in a gun cabinet, then found some bullets and showed his brother how the guns are loaded.

But while unloading it the gun discharged, hitting the younger boy in the leg. The boys' names are not being released.


Pierce County (WQOW) - A nine-year-old is airlifted to the hospital, after he was accidentally shot by his brother. The Pierce County Sheriff's Department says it happened around 4:30 Saturday afternoon in the Town of Spring Lake. No names have been released.

Sheriff's deputies say an 11-year-old boy was unloading a handgun inside a house, when it accidentally went off. The bullet hit his nine year-old brother in the leg. He was rushed to Mayo Menomonie, where he was then airlifted to Regions Hospital. The boy's condition is not known. The Pierce County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident.


Press Release from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department: On Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 1638 hours Pierce County Sheriff's Department was notified of a juvenile male with a gunshot wound at N7583 110th Street, Spring Valley, WI, Town of Spring Lake.  Deputies arrived on scene and discovered that an 11 year old juvenile male had been unloading a handgun inside the residence when it accidentally went off striking his 9 year old brother in the leg.  The juvenile victim was transported from the residence by Spring Valley Ambulance Service to Mayo Menomonie Hospital.  The victim was later airlifted to Regions Hospital. 

The incident is currently under investigation by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
