Hayward woman accidentally shot herself while hunting

Sawyer County (WQOW) - A Hayward woman underwent surgery Monday after shooting herself while deer hunting.

The DNR says Dawn Ross shot at a deer but forgot to put the safety on her rifle when she went looking for it. The gun discharged when she stepped on a log. She was shot in the upper left arm.

Statewide, six hunters were wounded by gunshots. That's the lowest number of injuries in at least the past three years. One hunter was shot and killed compared with zero fatalities the past two years.
