Eau Claire (WQOW) - A local school is working to brighten the holidays for area soldiers.
Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Eau Claire has been raising money and collecting gifts for soldiers in the 128th Infantry out of Menomonie. On Monday, the school held an assembly to donate what they'd collected.
"You get a lot of guys that come from really rough backgrounds and don't have a whole lot, still don't have a whole lot. And you see donations like some of this stuff and its things that a lot of them would never own on their own for sure. It's just incredible," said Capt. Eric Shimon, Commander, A-Company 1-128th Infantry.
Some of the gifts include memorabilia from the Green Bay Packers and several iPads. The 128th has been deployed twice in the last seven years and may be called up again this summer.
