Eau Claire (WQOW) - A non-profit group is getting behind
a national movement to dedicate a day of giving around the holiday season.
The United Way is
spreading the word about a new day that's designed as the start to the giving
season. Called Giving Tuesday, the goal is to encourage people to either
volunteer or donate time or money to their communities. This is the first year
for the special day, but the United
Way is already seeing some benefits.
"We'll always see a
certain amount of increase during the holiday season in terms of giving. I
think with promoting Giving Tuesday we have seen some increased donations,
increased inquiries about volunteer opportunities, so yes. I think it's doing
us some good this year," said James Peters, director of Marketing for United Way of the
Greater Chippewa Valley.
Giving Tuesday
will be held each year on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. For more
information on how you can get involved, contact your local United Way.
