Jim Falls (WQOW) - A healthy check will go a long way to promote health and wellness in the classroom.
RCU and WQOW News 18 presented a Tools for Schools award to Mrs. Nayes' 4th grade classroom in Jim Falls. Every month, RCU and WQOW News 18 team up to select one recipient for a $300 grant.
A student's parent nominated the classroom in Jim Falls, saying the money would be used to buy pedometers to track the activity level of students. The students set a goal to walk the distance between Jim Falls and Madison before March when the class makes its annual trip there. "We tour the Capitol, we go to the historical museum down there, and so it's something to show a little more appreciation, and they take ownership of the trip themselves. They feel like they've earned it," said Mrs. Nayes.
During the presentation, the students talked about how important it is to lead a healthy lifestyle and how that can affect the learning process in a positive way.
