Brianna Decker named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's hockey's Brianna Decker was named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, after recording seven points in the series sweep against St. Cloud State this past weekend and becoming the 15th player in NCAA history to score 100 career goals.
The Dousman, Wis., native scored twice in the opening game against the Huskies on Friday, Nov. 23, with her second goal of the game serving as her 100th career goal. She joins only two other Badgers, Meghan Duggan and Hilary Knight, to record 100 career goals. The senior captain also assisted on one goal in the 6-0 shutout.
Decker netted two more goals the following day, scoring the first and last Badger goals of a 6-3 come-back win against St. Cloud State. Her second goal of the game was scored short-handed an empty net from about 175 feet out. In addition to the two goals, Decker also tallied two assists.
After the weekend series, Decker moved into fourth place in program history of all-time leading scorers with 216 career points. Ahead of Decker are Sara Bauer (218), Meghan Duggan (238) and Hilary Knight (262). With the four goals on the weekend, Decker holds third place in career goals, only four behind Duggan.
The weekly honor is the third for Wisconsin this season, with Rigsby being named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week twice on Oct. 31 and Nov. 7.
The Badgers travel to face No. 1 Minnesota this Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1-2. Both games are slated to start at 2 p.m.
