Rusk County (WQOW) - An area mother has been accused of leading police on a high-speed chase with her toddler in the car.

Shelby Heintz of Ladysmith has been charged with recklessly endangering the safety of her 16-month-old. Earlier this month deputies tried to stop Heintz for a traffic violation on Highway 8 in Rusk County. They say she fled at speeds over 100 mph, at one point driving through a ditch.

Heintz eventually pulled over and deputies found the child crying in the car. They say Heintz had a blood alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit.
