Eau Claire (WQOW) - Menards is taking a creative
approach to try and hire workers at their North Dakota
store. They'll actually be flying them in from Wisconsin.
Menards is looking to hire 50
employees to work at their Minot,
North Dakota location. The oil
industry is booming out there. Stores are working hard to try and keep up with
the demand for things like construction materials as they try to build living
spaces for oil rig workers. Menards says they'll pay workers a starting wage of
$13 an hour, put them up in hotels and pay for food.
We wondered what wages companies in Minot, looking to hire,
were paying. We found a job listing for a mattress delivery driver that pays $16.50
an hour. Menards says the jobs they are looking to fill will technically be Eau Claire
positions, not Minot positions.
"With the wage
here, it's an Eau Claire job, I mean obviously if people want to go work in the
oil fields they can try to find a place to live out in Minot and go work in the
oil fields, but you know, we're paying a strong wage based on the Eau Claire
market," says John Leonauskas, Menards Marketing Manager.
Menards says they've already hired
several people.
