UW Hospital confirms Mount Horeb beating victim died Saturday

Madison (WKOW) - A UW Hospital official confirms that 20-year-old Ryan Smith passed away Saturday morning after being beaten with a baseball bat.  He was found on Oak Valley Road early Tuesday morning.

The man accused of beating Smith, 18-year-old Koalton Peterson, appeared in court on Friday.  A Dane County court commissioner set Peterson's bail at $1 million.

To help Smith's family cover the expenses, a fund has been set up at Summit Credit Union. The family would like to extend their thanks for all the prayers and support given to them during this time.
