UPDATE: Names released in fatal Pierce County accident

Pierce County (WQOW) - A Minnesota man has died and a woman is in critical condition after a car collides with a semi tractor trailer in Pierce County.

It happened Saturday night around 6:30 p.m. in the town of Oak Grove. The sheriff's department says a Matthew Amos, from Cottage Grove Minnesota, failed to yield the right of way on County Highway E and collided with a semi on Highway 10. Deputies say Amos was pronounced dead at the scene, and his passenger, Nancy Valois Graves, from St. Paul, was flown to Regions Hospital. She is in critical condition. The driver of the semi was not injured, and the crash is still under investigation.

Press Release from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department: As a follow up to the press release from early Sunday morning December 2, 2012 the names of the persons involved in the motor vehicle crash on Pierce County Road E at US Highway 10 in Oak Grove Township, Pierce County are being released.

Matthew Douglas Amos, 22 years of age, from Cottage Grove, MN was operating a 1999 Oldsmobile 4 door northbound on County Highway E south of US Highway 10. It appeared that Amos failed to yield the right of way from the stop sign on County Highway E to traffic on US Highway 10. Amos proceeded through the stop sign crossing US Highway 10 and struck an eastbound semi-tractor and trailer operated by James Michael Morgans, 41 years of age, from Tomah, WI.

Matthew Amos was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Pierce County Medical Examiner John Worsing. The passenger in Matthew's vehicle at the time of the crash, Nancy Valois Graves, 22 years of age, from St. Paul, MN, was flown to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN where she remains hospitalized with unknown injuries. James Morgans was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

On Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 6:20 pm, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department was notified of a semi tractor trailer vs. car crash at US Highway 10 and County Road E in Oak Grove Township.

The semi was eastbound on Highway 10 when a northbound car on County Road E, driven by a male subject from MN, along with a female passenger from MN failed to stop at the intersection and drove under the trailer of the semi. The car went under the trailer and was struck by the back axles of the trailer. The car came to rest on the north side of Highway 10 approximately 100 yards east of County Road E. The male driver of the car was deceased at the scene. The female passenger was transported by North Air Care Helicopter to Regions Hospital with undetermined injuries. The driver of the semi was not injured. The crash is still under investigation. Names are being withheld pending notification.
