Man arrested at gunpoint inside a Madison treatment facility for children with autism

MADISON (WKOW) -- Police arrested a Madison man at gunpoint early Sunday morning inside a west side treatment facility for children with autism.

Madison Police responded to a burglar alarm at Integrated Development Services, located at 815 Forward Drive, around 5:40 a.m. Sunday.

Police say 25-year-old Courtney Smith had credit cards that did not belong to him, a GPS, various rewards cards, and lots of coins, including more than 190 quarters, in his pockets.

Officials say several of the credit cards had been stolen from the wallet of a 54-year-old man Saturday night as he watched the Badger football game at State Street Brats. The victim said his wallet had been in a coat pocket.

Investigators are looking to find the rightful owners of the other recovered property.

According to police, Smith denied any wrongdoing, and said he thought the building he was found in was a friend's home.

Smith was arrested for Burglary, Receiving Stolen Property, and for a Probation Violation.
