St. Croix County (WQOW)- A western Wisconsin fire claims the lives of some very valuable show animals.
Friday's barn fire near Somerset killed about 120 rabbits. The rabbits, which took part in regional and national competitions, were owned by DeAnn Ray and her brother Dan Hall.
Hall says some of the rabbits that died were national winners valued at $500.00 each. All told, the rabbits were valued at $10,000 to $20,000.
They also lost dozens of trophies and ribbons. And the fire destroyed an historic barn that was over 100 years old.
Ray says her daughter was surveying the damage today when the apparent lone survivor of the fire hopped up to her. That rabbit now has a new name 'Very Lucky'.
