BELOIT (WKOW) -- The Beloit Police Department is investigating a two vehicle accident that occurred shortly before 5:00 this morning near Eighth Street and Euclid Avenue.
A vehicle driven by Spenser T. Hubbard, age 22, was traveling northbound on Eighth Street at a high rate of speed when he struck another vehicle traveling westbound on Euclid Avenue.
After striking the vehicle driven by Salvador Cabrera-Ortega, age 40, Hubbard's vehicle drove through a yard and came to rest against a residence on Eighth Street.
Members of Beloit Fire Department were called to the scene to extricate victims from both vehicles.
Hubbard was transported to Mercy Hospital in Janesville for non-life threatening injuries. A 17-year-old female passenger in his vehicle was flown by helicopter to UW Madison Hospital and is listed in serious condition. Neither was wearing a seatbelt.
Cabrera-Ortega, of Beloit, and his six-year-old daughter were transported to Beloit Hospital for minor injuries and were treated and released. The little girl was not restrained with a seatbelt or car seat.
The scene was cleared shortly after 8:00 a.m.
In addition to the excessive speed, investigators believe alcohol and/or other drugs were a contributing factor.
Hubbard will be held on an initial charge of causing injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. Additional charges will be assessed at the conclusion of the investigation.
