Barron County (Press Release) - On Monday, December 3, 2012 at 2:27 a.m., the Barron County Sheriff's Department received a call of a crash on 18 ¼ Street at 29th Avenue just north of Haugen.
Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff's Department, the Bear Lake Haugen Fire Department and Lakeview Medical Center were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that a smaller SUV driven by Andrew Juza, 23, of Sarona failed to stop at the stop sign on 18 ¼ Street and went through the intersection striking an embankment and a tree. Andrew was transported by ambulance to LMC, treated for his injuries and released where he was taken into custody for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol causing an injury. He is being held in the Barron County Jail pending an initial appearance today at 1 p.m.
The passenger in the vehicle James Hartwig, 23, of Shell Lake was transported to LMC and then to Luther Hospital with serious injuries. The accident was reconstructed by the Sheriff's Department and remains under investigation.
