Pierce County (WQOW) - A blow-up over blasting has finally been settled in Pierce County.
Twenty residents of Hager City filed a lawsuit against the county three years ago. They claimed blasting at the county rock quarry was causing cracked walls, ceilings and foundations in their homes. They also complained about excessive noise and dust. The residents wanted the quarry shut down but both sides have now reached a compromise.
Insurance companies for the county and the blasting company have agreed to pay $50,000 toward the residents' legal fees. But they won't admit causing any harm.
The county has also agreed to 16 conditions. They include building a berm to deflect noise from blasting, notifying residents when it will occur, and using different blasting techniques to minimize noise and ground vibrations.
