Good Samaritans honored

CHIPPEWA FALLS (WKOW) -- Two railroad workers in western Wisconsin are being honored for saving the life of an elderly man.

On October 4th, Donald Shilts, Sr. of Chippewa Falls was picking up leaves when he fell down a hill and had a heart attack.

He ended up a few feet short of some railroad tracks nearby.

Four and a half hours later, two railroad workers found him and called for help.

"I thought that the deputies coming through the woods was a flashlight from God," said Shilts.

"I'm glad we went through when we did and got him in time because it was a cold night," said rescuer James Stewart.

Stewart said Shilts could have been out there all night because the next train wasn't coming until the morning.

Stewart and Steve Polanski received a community service award for their actions Tuesday night from the Chippewa Falls city council.
