Badger fans react to Bielema leaving UW

MADISON (WKOW) -- It's been a mixture of emotions from Badger fans, who are responding to the news that Bret Bielema will be leaving Wisconsin to coach for Arkansas.

Just after the news broke, some fans on the UW-Madison campus say they're looking forward to seeing a change in the football program.

"Actually, I'm kinda happy because I think they need to change the coaching staff around you know and start with a better passing offense and I dunno, I just didn't think he had it," says Peter Nelson, a sophomore at UW.

Others though are sad to see Bielema go, and concerned about the team's future.

"I think it would hurt recruits more than anything until they get a new coach, to get new high [school] recruits coming, I dunno how they feel about the coaching situation," says UW freshman Matt Robbins.

Many of the students said they heard the news pretty quickly on Tuesday afternoon, thanks to social media.

"We were in the library doing some econ homework and we saw it on Twitter and [we've] been trying to swallow this one right now," says Anthony Birch, a UW freshman.

Right now, we don't know whether Bielema will coach the Rose Bowl game. Regardless, some say they're worried about the timing of the announcement, and how it could affect the players in the coming weeks leading up to the game.

"I'm not sure if he'll be able to coach in the Rose Bowl or not and I'm planning on going to the Rose Bowl so I want to see us do well there and compete, so it's kinda crazy timing," says Whitney Johnson, a UW student.
