MADISON (WKOW) -- It appears UW Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez will step back onto the football field and lead the Badgers in the Rose Bowl.
The Wisconsin State Journal cites a source close to Alvarez, who said the team's captains reached out to Alvarez and asked him to coach the team. Alvarez told them he would be "honored" to do so.
At his introductory news conference in Arkansas, former head coach Bret Bielema said he had also heard Alvarez would be coaching the team.
"They might finally win one, " Bielema said. "Everybody tells me he won three and I lost two, so they will have a tremendous opportunity in the bowl game."
We'll know for sure Thursday morning when Alvarez holds a news conference at 10 a.m.
