JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- A Janesville man is arrested on charges of fleeing and eluding an officer and an 8th OWI offense.
Peter Smith of Janesville was stopped by Janesville police around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday. Officer Benji Thompson observed a red Chevrolet Beretta fail to stop for a red traffic light at East Centerway Street and North Parker Drive.
Officer Thompson requested a backup officer for standardized field sobriety testing. When the officers approached the suspect vehicle, Smith sped off from the traffic stop location. Officers pursued for .3 miles at speeds of 50 miles per hour until Smith pulled over on Harding Street.
Smith was taken into custody. His blood alcohol tested at .15. Smith is being held at the Rock County Jail on felony OWI charges, felony fleeing and probation hold.
