Eau Claire (WQOW) – The first winter storm of the season packed a punch.  Parts of western Wisconsin received as much as 16 inches of snow. Here's a look at just some of the snow totals in our area:

Somerset: 16.5"

Downsville: 15.5"

Chippewa Falls: 15"

Eau Claire: 14.7"

Elk Mound: 14.3"

Durand: 11.8"

Cumberland: 8.0"

More totals will be provided after final measurements are taken.

The Eau Claire Police Department and the State Patrol are cautioning drivers to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Police say all of the roads within the city of Eau Claire are very difficult to drive on. The department has responded to more than 40 crashes since 7:00 a.m. Sunday morning. The State Patrol says they've responded to 21 crashes and 60 runoffs along the interstate and major highways. There have been no serious injuries as a result of those crashes.

The city of Eau Claire says crews began a full residential snowplow operation at midnight. They expect to be finished around ten a.m. Monday morning.

For those of you who were looking forward to seeing snow in our area, Mother Nature did not disappoint. Plenty of snow plows and shovels were out in full force. While others worked to clear the area, area kids were excited to see the mess.

"I like seeing the snow because there are more activities to do, you get to go sledding and ice skating, and usually you'll have more days off of school. It makes it more of a white Christmas," said Abby Wampler of Eau Claire.

Several people told us they've already shoveled two or three times, and will probably shovel a few times more before the snow stops falling later on.
