Eau Claire (WQOW) - Public comment prompts the DNR to make changes to its proposed rules for hunting in an area state park. A new law that takes effect in January will expand hunting and trapping in state parks across Wisconsin.
That includes Lake Wissota state park near Chippewa Falls. The DNR recently held public meetings to gather input on what areas of the park should be off-limits to hunters. Based on comments from those meetings, they are changing the proposal. Hunting and trapping in the park would still begin October 15th. But under the new plan, the northern one-third of the park will be off-limits until November 15th. That's because people typically use the horse trails in that area until late fall.
The state Natural Resources Board is expected to vote on the changes when it meets on Tuesday.
