Wisconsin. DNR proposes new rules for wolf hunting with dogs

MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin wildlife officials are proposing new rules for training dogs to hunt wolves.

The use and training of dogs for the state wolf hunt has been temporarily banned for this season, during a lawsuit that brought up safety concerns.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources now wants hunters to be able to train dogs only during daylight hours during wolf season and in the month of March. Each dog would also have to be tattooed or wear an ID collar.

If approved by the Natural Resources Board, the rules wouldn't take effect until 2014. DNR officials hope to hold public hearings on the proposed regulations.
