FAIRFIELD (WKOW) -- Early Sunday morning, the Sauk County Sheriff's Office was notified of a single vehicle crash on County Highway U just east of Hein Road.
Emergency personnel from Sauk County, Baraboo Fire and Ambulance were all sent to the scene.
The preliminary investigation reveals David A. Saunders, age 28 of Baraboo, was driving his 1992 Dodge Shadow westbound on County Highway U when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle struck a group of mailboxes and crossed the road, coming to rest in a residential yard.
Saunders was pronounced dead at the scene by Sauk County Coroner Greg Hahn.
Saunders was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol was a factor in this crash. This crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff's Office.
