RACINE (WKOW) -- Like many other big Wisconsin counties, Racine County has been looking for ways to save money, and now they found one.
The county will soon staff its jail entirely with civilian personnel. The county jail was once staffed solely with sworn sergeants with a beginning salary of $75,000.
By replacing sworn officers with civilian sergeants, whose pay starts at $37,000, the county will see an annual savings of an estimated $100,000.
