MADISON (WKOW) -- The executive committee of the UW Board of regents approved an additional $118,500 in pay for UW-Madison Athletic Director Barry Alvarez to coach the Badgers in the Rose Bowl.
Officials said Alvarez would receive 90 percent of former football coach Bret Bielema's monthly coaching salary and ten percent of his current athletic director salary in December.
UW-Madison Chancellor David Ward said Alvarez's pay boost was fair and proportional, given his dual responsibilities of coaching the Rose Bowl and "attracting the best coaching candidates in the search for someone to lead the Badgers' football program going forward."
If Wisconsin wins the New Year's Day game against Stanford, Alvarez will get a $50,000 bonus.
Bielema left Wisconsin's head football coaching job last week for the same position at the University of Arkansas.
