Senator Herb Kohl asks for delay on Obamacare tax - WQOW TV: Eau Claire, WI NEWS18 News, Weather, and Sports

MADISON (WKOW) -- U.S. Senator Herb Kohl (D-Madison) signed a letter with 17 other Senate Democrats requesting that the implementation of a January 1, 2013 tax resulting from the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act(PPACA), be delayed.

The letter, dated December 4th and sent to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada), specifically requests a delay in the medical device excise tax.

In the letter, the Senators argue that "the medical device industry has received little guidance on how to comply with the tax, causing significant uncertainty and confusion for businesses."

The Senators also point out that "the medical technology industry employs over 400,000 people in the United States and is responsible for a total of two million high-skilled manufacturing jobs."

They also state that the medical device industry is one of the few that enjoys a net trade surplus in the United States.

Sen. Kohl voted in favor of PPACA in 2009.

A spokesperson for Sen. Kohl told 27 News she will look into his reasoning for signing the letter.
