Local dance academy raising money for one of its young dancers

MADISON (WKOW) -- A Waunakee dance academy is giving back to one of its dancers this holiday season.

Spotlight Dance Academy's holiday show will benefit Madeline Koppes this year. Madeline is a second grader who was diagnosed at birth with dwarfism and has a rare form of scoliosis.

Due to her situation, Madeline has been receiving treatment in St. Louis, MO for some time. In October, she had metal rods removed from her back and was placed in traction. Once she completes traction she will have a second surgery in January to fuse some of her vertebrae.

The cost for all of this is very expensive, so Spotlight Dance Academy is helping raise money for Madeline Koppes' fund.

This year's holiday show on Saturday follows the story of "The Polar Express". There will be two shows, the first at 1 p.m. and the other at 5 p.m. at the Waunakee High School Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are available ahead of the show or can be purchased at the door for $8. On Thursday, tickets can be purchased from 4 to 7 p.m. at Spotlight Dance Academy, located at 1340 Montondon Avenue in Waunakee. They will also be selling tickets on Friday at Waunakee High School from 4 to 8:30 p.m.

Madeline's mom, Sara Koppes, joins us on 27 News at 5 on Wednesday to talk about how Madeline is doing.
