People celebrate 12/12/12 day

MADISON (WKOW) -- Wednesday is the last time we'll see a repeating number date for another 88 years, and 12/12/12 has been special day for a number of people.

For some, 12/12/12 is just another day, but others believe the 12th day of the 12th month of 2012 is a lucky one.

Dane County court officials say 20 couples applied for a license to marry on 12/12/12, and three couples chose to do so at the state Capitol at exactly 12 minutes after 12 noon, making their special day a little more memorable.

Down the road at Meriter Hospital, another couple had a lot to celebrate too. Clay and Jennifer Donohoe welcomed their first baby at 12 noon. While the Verona couple certainly didn't plan for 12 to be their lucky number, they're happy it will be an easy birthday to remember.

"Very glad, hopefully it turns out to be a lucky day for all of us," says Clay.

Logan was actually the 11th baby born on Wednesday at Meriter, so he just barely missed out on yet another 12. Meriter is expecting up to 18 babies will be born through midnight.

A lot of people consider days like these to be a big part of their lucky numbers. Wisconsin Lottery officials say for the Pick 4 game, the sequence "1-2-1-2" sold out by 8:15 Wednesday morning. That means they reached the limit on the payout for that combination of numbers, which is $3-million. Another popular day for sellouts is Halloween, with the Pick 3 combination "6-6-6".
