Dane County opens news recycling center

MADISON (WKOW) -- Dane County officially opened its new recycling center Thursday.

The facility cost $4 million dollars.

Construction and demolition waste will now be recycled there, instead of going to the Rodefeld Landfill, which county officials say will extend the landfill's life another 30 years.

County Executive Joe Parisi says construction and demolition waste takes up 40 percent of the space at the landfill.

"This facility will save both tax dollars and help us keep our environment clean. So we're very excited that we have this very forward looking project that's coming online today," says Parisi.

Parisi says the recycling center will be open to everyone from large construction companies to homeowners who have leftover supplies from their own work.

The facility will also allow the county's Clean Sweep program to remain open year-round, beginning in the Spring. The program allows people to safely dispose of things like paint and household cleaners.
