MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- A car crashed into a house in south Milwaukee, caught on fire and killed the driver.
But the family inside the home somehow survived.
Samantha Schendel, her husband and young son were awakened Thursday morning by a fiery crash in their front lawn.
Authorities say around 2am the driver of a pick-up truck was going 25 miles per hour above the speed limit.
Police tried to stop the truck but it crashed into the house.
The Schendel family was able to escape safely.
Samantha says, "We were just very lucky today and yet we feel for whoever passed away in the car, that's kinda hard too."
Schendel says the tree in the front yard saved their lives.
It stopped the truck, which could've gone right into their bedrooms.
