MADISON (WKOW)-- A Madison judge is scheduled this week to take another look at a lawsuit challenging the use of dogs in the state's wolf hunt.
Several humane societies in Wisconsin banded together to file a suit in August alleging the Department of Natural Resources failed to enact any meaningful restrictions on how hunters can use dogs to track wolves. They believe this lack of restriction is setting the stage for bloody wolf-dog fights in the woods.
Dane County Circuit Judge Peter Anderson has temporarily barred wolf hunters from using dogs as he considers the case in court. He is scheduled to issue an oral ruling on the case Thursday afternoon.
Numbers show that hunters haven't had too much trouble killing wolves without dogs. Hunters have reached DNR-imposed kill limits in all but one of the wolf management zones.
